About Nutshell

Nutshell is a web-based customer relationship management (CRM) and email marketing platform designed to help B2B organizations work together to win more deals. Combining sales CRM, marketing automation, and engagement tools in a single interface, it gives teams a shared view of customers, pipelines, and communications so they can focus on revenue-generating activities instead of administration. Every subscription includes unlimited contacts and data storage, customizable reports, and live support, making it attractive for small and midsize businesses that want enterprise-style capabilities in a simpler package.

Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Nutshell was launched publicly in 2010 and has steadily evolved from a lightweight sales CRM into a broader growth platform. The product now encompasses sales pipeline management, activity tracking, reporting and forecasting, email marketing, SMS, web chat, landing pages, AI-powered productivity features, and a managed integration marketplace. Native iOS and Android apps, plus a Chrome extension for Gmail and Google Workspace, ensure teams can access and update customer data from anywhere.

The company has been repeatedly recognized for usability and affordability, including Top 20 rankings from Capterra for user-friendly and affordable CRMs, high ratings on G2 and Capterra, and a 2025 Netty Award for Best CRM Software. Its focus on clarity, automation, and “next best action” guidance is designed to boost adoption: Nutshell emphasizes that the most powerful CRM is the one sales teams actually use. The platform’s visual pipelines, automation rules, and AI summaries are intended to remove busywork and surface what needs attention right now.

In October 2022, Nutshell was acquired by digital marketing agency WebFX and now operates as part of the WebFX family while continuing to develop its own product roadmap. The company reports serving over 5,000 companies in more than 50 countries across industries such as technology, professional services, manufacturing, home services, nonprofits, and education. In the crowded CRM market, Nutshell positions itself as a modern, sales-first alternative to heavyweight systems like Salesforce and HubSpot—particularly for growing SMB and mid-market teams that want an all-in-one revenue platform without the overhead of a dedicated CRM administrator.

Nutshell has been an excellent CRM solution for us at Main Executive. We operate four related businesses that work together while still functioning independently, and Nutshell allows us to manage that structure efficiently and without confusion. One of the biggest advantages is visibility. From sales representatives to schedulers, our entire team can see the full history of each customer interaction—from the initial estimate, to signed contracts, to completed work. This continuity keeps everyone aligned and eliminates guesswork or duplicated effort. Nutshell also excels at long-term follow-up. Being able to track past projects and schedule future outreach—such as reconnecting with customers a few years later for driveway sealing—has been extremely valuable for our business model. Overall, Nutshell has improved communication, accountability, and organization across all departments. It has become a central tool in how we manage sales, scheduling, and customer relationships across multiple companies.

We chase misprinted lies We face the path of time And yet I fight, and yet I fight This battle all alone No one to cry to No place to call home Ooh Ooh-ooh Ooh Ooh-ooh My gift of self is raped My privacy is raked And yet I find, and yet I find Repeating in my head If I can't be my own I'd feel better dead Ooh Ooh-ooh Ooh Ooh-ooh

We have been using nutshell for 4 years and it has def been problematic. Over the past 8 months it’s has gone from tolerable to awful. There is no longer a way to contact a help desk on the phone and it’s all just AI based now. So def will be looking to leave by the end of the year for a better, less problematic CRM.

We have been using Nutshell for years and had a good experience until the last update to iOS. Nutshells app has been unstable since iOS launched and simple task like commenting on an Activity currently do not work. This is a vital function to accurately document calls. Nutshell is unwilling to give us a credit even though their software is not functioning correct. As long as their software works, they offer good customer service. However, when there is a problem, they apparently don't stand behind it.

Response from owner 8 years ago

Hi Will! First, thanks for using Nutshell — looks like you've been with us for over two years — we appreciate ya'! I'm sorry for these iOS 11 issues. We were behind the curve, and we've been quickly playing catch-up. The fix for the specific activity commenting issue you described is in place, and getting some internal testing prior to a release very soon. We're focusing all our mobile energy on these iOS 11 troubles. On a monetary credit for the issue, you have an email in your inbox from me now. We will find a fair and meaningful solution. We haven't typically offered a refund in the case of temporary bugs, but we're a team of people over process, without a bunch of policies to keep us from doing the right thing. Again, I'm sorry for the trouble, and thank you for bringing it to our attention! Andy Fowler Cofounder, Nutshell
