What is the Do Not Call List?
The Do Not Call List is a nationwide registry of telephone numbers that are off-limits to telemarketers. The registry, which is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), was created in 2003 in an effort to give consumers some respite from unwanted calls. To date, more than 217 million phone numbers are on the list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Do Not call list actually work?
The Do Not call list does work, however, there are a few exceptions. For example, political organizations and non-profit organizations are allowed to call numbers on the list. Additionally, calls from companies that you have an existing business relationship are also allowed. So while the Do Not call list is effective, there are still some calls that you may receive.
Why am I still getting spam calls when I'm on the Do Not call list?
You may still get spam calls because: - The call is from a telemarketer who doesn't respect the Do Not Call list. - The caller is spoofing their phone number to make it look like they're calling from a local number. - The call is from a robocaller using an automated system to dial numbers. - You've given your consent to receive calls from the company, either by opting in to their marketing program or by doing business with them in the past.
